Nurse in Mfang’ano Island hangs himself to death

Police in Mbita Sub-county are investigating the death of a male nurse whose body was found hanging from the roof of his house in Mfang’ano Island last evening.
The deceased identified Evans Okoth Odhiambo, 23-year-old nurse of Ngothe dispensary is reported to have committed suicide using a sisal rope at his house within the health facility for unknown reasons.
The nurse was recently recruited under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) scheme in May 2020.
It is said that the deceased attended patients yesterday at the facility before he took a break at around 1pm to go to his house within the facility where he took away his life.
His body was found dangling from the roof by his colleague who went to call him to attend to another patient who was brought for medical attention.
Mbita Sub-county Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) boss Philip Sang confirms the incident saying the nurse did not leave behind any suicide note that could indicate what pushed him to hang himself.
He says that they have launched investigations to establish the cause of his death as the body was moved to Kirindo mortuary.
