Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has tested positive for the corona virus.
Kidero says he took the test on Tuesday April 6, alongside his family members after he started exhibiting symptoms for the virus.
According to the former county boss, this came a week after he had received his first vaccination jab for the disease on March, 2021.
“Fellow Kenyans, I got vaccinated against covid-19 last Monday, which was followed by Covid-19 like reaction three days later. As a family, we had COVID tests done yesterday, whose results I have received. Everybody else is negative,” read the statement issued by Kidero.
He also urged his team members to undergo tests for the virus.
“I advise our team members whom I’ve been in contact with to go and have themselves tested for Covid immediately. It’s my appeal to Kenyans to continue observing the ministry of health protocols on Covid,” he added.
Reports form the ministry of health state that covid-19 vaccination does not prevent one from contracting the virus.
Speaking to the press on March 19, Health Ministry CAS Mercy Mwangangi said that the vaccine only serves to boost the immune system and get it ready to fight the virus.
“Getting the vaccine does not mean that you cannot get covid-19 .Getting the jab does not mean that you cannot transmit the Covid-19.What the jab does is that it makes you your immunity system alert .It prepares you for war ,should you come across the virus your immune system will be ready to fight and manage that virus”, said the Health CAS.
Mwangangi, however, noted that vaccination will help reduce the number severe cases being witnessed, most if which lead to death.
