ACUTE WATER SHORTAGE IN HOMABAY TOWN

Residents in Homabay town still decry lack of clean water in the town after the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) disconnected the power that was being used in pumping water following a debt that the county government owes the company.
According to Homabay County KPLC manager Ken Okumbe, they were forced to cut the power supply one month ago due to failure in paying a debt which he did not disclose the amount, and this has forced the residents to use dirty water from Lake Victoria, something that is putting their lives at risk.
Some of the places that are experience lack of water include; Sofia, Got-Rabuor, Kapita, Makongeni, Shauri Yako, Homabay GK Prison and Homabay Police Station.
Some of the residents who spoke to Sky fm expressed their dissapointment with the County government due to the lack of water which forces them to buy dirty water from lake victoria at Sh. 30 per 20 litres. They urged Governor Cyprian Awiti to look into the matter as soon as possible.
On his side, the CEC water Dickson Nyawinda, he condemned the KPLC for cuting the power supply despite the county paying them Sh. 10 million two weeks ago from the debt of Sh. 12 million that they owed them. He said that the county is in the process of paying the remaining Sh. 2 million and he therefore requested the company to reconnect the power supply.
