GOVERNMENT TO PUT AN END TO DONKEY SLAUGHTERING

Non-governmental organisations; Support for Tropical Initiative in Poverty Alievation (STIPA) and Send a Cow held a meeting with donkey owners and those who use donkeys due to complaints that have been raised by donkey owners that there is a reduction in the number of donkeys in Kisumu County.
The NGOs stated that the number of donkeys have reduced from 15000 in 2009 to 3000 this year. According to them, this has been brought about by the donkey skin business that has led to the increase in slaughtering of donkeys in the country.
The organisations are therefore planning to come up with ways that will ensure the government puts an end to the slaughtering of donkeys in the country since the donkey skin business has brought more losses than benefits to those rearing donkeys.
