EDUCATING FISHERMEN ON PROPER WAYS OF FISHING

Homabay County government in partnership with the National Government has been urged to give education to fishermen in the different beaches along Lake Victoria in the county concerning healthy fishing practises so as to prevent the use of wrong fishing techniques which has brought a reduction in the number of fish in the lake.

These have been said by the Homabay County Senator Moses Otieno Kajwang’ during his visit to K’oguna beach in Suba-North Sub-county. he said that most fishermen have only put their strength in catching small/immature fish due to the fishing techniques that they are using, something that has reduced the number of fish in the lake.

He therefore urged the County and national governments to give education to the fishermen in the different beaches in the lake so as to embrace good fishing practises.
