Fisherman Shot Dead

A 28 year old Kenyan fisherman was shot dead by police officers manning the beaches along Lake Victoria in Uganda next to Ringiti Island in Suba North sub-county.
The fisherman identified as Arafat Okinyi Nguka is said to have been killed by officers in charge of Lolwe Island found in Uganda at the time they were in their daily fishing activities with his other three fellows who managed to run away and escape.
The four fishermen including the late hail from Sindo Gateway Beach in Suba North sub-county in Homabay County. Reports indicate that the fishermen met such terrible incident when they had already left and were rowing back to Sindo.
According to the Homabay County Beach Management Unit BMU chairperson Edward Oremo, the officers tried stopping the fishermen who refused to stop, an act that led the officers to shoot one of them. Oremo urged the government to find a way of helping the Kenyan fishermen who are passing through hard time in the hands of Ugandan officers.
