Bathing Turns Tragic After a Man Drowns in Lake Victoria

One man lost his life as two others were rescued in Koginga beach in Homabay town Sub-County Homabay County as they went to bathe in Lake Victoria.

Confirming the incident shortly after its occurrence, Homabay town Sub-location assistant chief Dancun Oketch said that the youths aged between 25-34 arrived at the beach yesterday morning to bathe and took one of the boats that was at the beach and paddled into the lake. Two of them then jumped into the lake before one of them identified as Tupak was overwhelmed by the waters and drowned as the other one identified as Geoffrey Odaka shouted and was rescued.

Oketch said that the body of the young man has not yet been found since they have stopped the search till the families of the youth get there. He went ahead to urge beach management leaders to ensure that they know everybody who gets to the beach and takes a boat into the lake without the knowledge of the owner of the beach management leadership.
