The process of searching for the eight missing bodies that had not been found following the boat tragedy next to Homabay pier beach in Lake Victoria yesterday evening has commenced today morning after the search came to a standstill following an unfavorable climate.
The eight are among the 16 people who were on the boat that had left Homabay pier while heading to Ndhuru Island in Suba North where the boat sank only 400 meters after the takeoff. It is alleged that the tragedy had been caused by heavy goods.
As of yesterday evening, bodies of two people were found including that of a middle aged woman and that of a one and half year old baby and their bodies were taken to the County Referral Morgue and those of the six persons that were rescued were sent to Osano Community Health Center for treatment.
Mr. Eliud Onyango, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Emergency and Response Unit in Homabay County, says that the search of the missing bodies had commenced today in the morning at 6:30 am. He further explained that the search will be done together with officers from the Kenya Coast Guard Services, Kenya Maritime Authority; beach Managers and the Homabay Emergency Response Unit.
