Two families have been sent into mourning following a boat tragedy in Lake Victoria as it was sailing to Ndhuru Island from Homa Bay pier.

Confirming the incident shortly after it had happened, Homabay Town Location chief, Mr. Joshua Ochogo said that the boat had 16 passengers on board together with heavy goods while heading to Ndhuru Island in Suba North.

He explained that amongst the 16 people who were on board, six people were found alive while two were found dead and have been taken to the morgue while they are still in search of the eight others.

The area chief further said that as much as they are still in search of the eight missing people, however, they are facing a series of challenges following the heavy down pour and presence of water hyacinth in the lake.

He encouraged both passengers and fishermen using the lake to always check the state of the boats and also ensure that they put on the life saving jackets before they board.
