Fire Tragedy at Gendia Boys High School

A section of the razed down dormitory

Students in Gendia Boys High School in Rachuonyo North Sub-County suffered a big loss after fire broke out and and burnt down one of their dormitories.

The fire started just a few moments after the students had left for their dawn preps on Monday morning as the fire left 140 students with nowhere to sleep.

According to witnesses, before the fire broke out, there was a huge scream and after a short period, huge smoke was witnessed coming from the dormitory. The said dormitory was made of iron sheets, a structure that was put up by the school to meet the 100% transition.

Confirming the incident to Sky FM, Rachuonyo North Sub-County police commander Sarah Chumo said that no student was injured during the incident, as she confirmed that the students who were inside the dormitory at the time that the fire broke out all came out safe.

She went ahead to say that the fire brought a massive loss as there was nothing that was rescued. She finished by saying that the cause of the fire has not yet been established, as she promised that investigations are underway in conjunction with the school management to help establish the cause of the fire.
