Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education Dr. Julius Jwan has said that any student who will be found guilty of orchestrating the burning of school infrastructure will taken as a criminal and will not be given a certificate of good conduct.
Speaking at Mauta Primary school in Mfangano island, Mbita sub-county during his visit to schools in the islands of Lake Victoria, Dr. Jwan said that any student found guilty of arson will be arrested and arraigned in court.
He told students to refrain from the habit of burning schools as he said that the government does not approve such behaviours and hiding behind strikes. He told security officers to investigate and arrest students participating in such activities without favoring anyone.
He also went ahead to state that the government will not use money in repairing school infrastructure that have been burnt by students and the expenses will have to be taken care of by parents.
On her side, secretary in the same ministry Sarah Ruto requested parents to teach their children to know why they were taken to school and not keeping on destroying school property.
