NEMA officers in Homabay County arrested 11 people for using plastic bags which were banned in the country. The 11 comprised three business people who were arrested at Rodi Kopany while others were those arrested for poor disposal of waste.

The officer in charge of environment in Homabay county Josiah Nyandoro said that the process of arresting those people was a connection they made with police officers, as he added that the government had already banned manufacturing, selling and even using plastic bags.

Speaking to journalists in his office in Homabay, Nyandoro said that the other two were inside a waste lorry which was planning to dispose the waste in Ogande, Homabay town constituency. He said that the lorry was going to dispose the waste at an unrecognized point for waste disposal as they also did not have certification for doing so.

He finished by saying that they will be arraigned in court and be charged.
