Six students whom are being linked with the fire that burnt down a 500 capacity dormitory at Maranda High school will now stay in police custody until 23rd of this month as DCI officers continue with investigations.
This comes after Bondo law courts granted the DCI officers their request of holding the suspects for 14 more days as they continue with investigations on the course of the fire. The students who are aged between 16 and 18 years requested the court to set them free on a cash bail, a request that was rejected by senior magistrate Stella Mathenge, who directed that the six be detained at Bondo police station, at the Children Protection Unit, as she stated that setting them free would interfere with evidence.
Police told the court that the six students were called severally by their fellow students and they will help with the investigations to find out the course of the Sunday night fire.
