FAMILY IN SHOCK AFTER A 20 MONTHS OLD BABY DIES IN A WELL.

A family in Saria village, Awendo sub-county is in great despair and grief after the death of their 20 months old baby who drowned in a well on Monday evening.

Confirming the incident, North Kanyamgang sub-location assistant chief Madam Agnes Atieno said she found report about the incident very late after the family of the late child decided to have a private burial session late in the night, fearing to report the incident to Awendo police.

Madam Agnes condemned the family’s action of hiding the incident and later rushing the body to Rosewood nursing Home only after realizing the police had already received the report about the incident. She said that everyone must ensure their wells are well covered and all the open holes covered as well or else action will be taken against them according to the law.

Mother of the late child Lucy Atieno said she was not available during the incident and it was her neighbor who broke the news to he, sentiments that were supported by the child’s grandfather Cleophas Gondi Kisero who said that they did not report the incident because they were in great sorrow at the moment.

Awendo police officers are still going on with investigations to determine what might have caused the drowning of the little child in the borehole.
