Police officers in Awendo in conjunction with the DCI arrested 13 teachers together with one student following exam irregularities in Komolorume Mixed Secondary School in Awendo sub-county on Tuesday.

According to one of the senior officers in Awendo who did not want to be mentioned due to security reasons, 13 teachers including the school principal were arrested as it is suspected that the school has been engaged in exam malpractises.

The DCI are investigating the case, as the teachers also wrote their statements at the DCI offices in Awendo. Four teachers wrote their statement on Tuesday as the remaining nine are expected to do so this morning. The teachers have also been denied the opportunity to continue invigilating the KCSE exams, as Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) in Migori county have deployed alternative teachers to continue invigilating the exams starting this morning. The principal was also changed and now the deputy principal was placed in charge as investigations are ongoing.

Security has been beefed up in Migori county as a way of ensuring that no exam irregularities are witnessed in Migori county at large.
