FALSE: Gideon Munga Nyale is not the new DCI boss

President William Ruto appointed Amin Mohamed Ibrahim as the new director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
A Facebook post claiming that former Director of the Anti Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) Gideon Munga Nyale, has been appointed the new Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is FALSE.
The post shared on October 15, 2022 claimed that Nyale, who’s currently serving as the Principal Assistant to the Inspector General of police had been selected to replace George Kinoti, who resigned in September, 2022.
The post was accompanied by a photo of Mr Nyale and a caption that reads: “The new DCI Kenya who has replaced Kinoti. Munga Nyale from Kilifi has been appointed as the Director of criminal investigation in Kenya.”
Nyale was among the candidates who applied and were shortlisted for interviews for the position of DCI Director.
Other candidates who were shortlisted for position were; Amin Ibrahim Mohamed, Bernard Barasa Walumoli, Eliud Kipkoech Lagat, Esther Chepkosgei Seroney, David Kipkosgey Birech, Jonyo Michael Wiso, Nicholas Ireri Kamwende, Paul Jimmie Ndambuki and Dr. Simon Mwangi Wanderi.
To confirm the authenticity of the claim, we checked State House Kenya’s Facebook and Twitter pages where presidential appointments are announced, and established that the claim was not true.
According to a statement by State House Kenya, President William Ruto appointed Amin Mohamed Ibrahim as the new DCI boss and not Munga Nyale as alleged.
The appointment was further confirmed by the Kenya Police who shared a gazette notice announcing Mohamed’s appointment.
On October 19, 2022 Mohamed took the oath of office and officially assumed his position as the new DCI boss.
