FALSE: CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL

A twitter post claiming that climate change is a conspiracy by scientists is false.
“And climate change is a global conspiracy organized by Ferrari driving scientists led by George Soros trying to establish the new world order”, states the claim.
According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), 97% of climate scientists are in agreement that the current rise in temperatures witnessed on earth over the past 100 years is as a result of human activities.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) through a special report released in 2018 indicated that since the pre-industrial era, the earth has become warmer by one-degree Celsius, and this mainly caused by human activities. The report further states that if nothing is done, then between the years 2030 and 2052, we will reach an increase of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Since the year 2005, the world has witnessed the ten warmest years on record according to NASA.
The Annual 2022 Global Climate Report from the National Centers for Environmental Information, a premier product of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), states that each month of the year 2022 were ranked the ten warmest for that month. This happened despite the fact that the cooling influence from the La Niña climate pattern in the tropical Pacific. The “coolest” month was November, which was 1.35 ˚F (0.75 ˚C) warmer than average.

NASA states that the earth’s climate has changed throughout the years and over 800,000 years, most of the changes are as a result of small variations in the earth’s orbit and this in turn affects how solar energy reaches the earth. However, NASA says that since the mid-20th century, there is 95% probability most of the current warming is as a result of human activities.
A French physicist Joseph Fourier was the first individual to propose the concept of greenhouse effect in 1824, where gasses in the Earth’s atmosphere trap and retain the sun’s heat. He argued that earth should have been colder than it was in the 1820s based on its size and distance from the sun. Since his theory, several other scientists have observed in separate experiments in the late 1800s that certain gasses such as CO2 exhibited heat-absorbing properties.
