Fake News: WHO Has Not Recommended Healthy Children Not To Be Injected Covid 19 Vaccines

Written by on April 14, 2023

A post claiming that the World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that COVID-19 vaccines are “not recommended” for healthy children and teens is false.

The social media post, which was updated by Citizen Free Press, misinterpreted new WHO guidelines by suggesting that healthy young people do not need Covid 19 vaccines.

According to the new WHO guidelines, countries should prioritize continued COVID-19 vaccinations for those most at risk, such as older people and those with underlying health conditions.

“Updated to reflect that much of the population is either vaccinated or previously infected with COVID-19, or both, the revised roadmap reemphasizes the importance of vaccinating those still at-risk of severe disease, mostly older adults and those with underlying conditions, including with additional boosters.

“Countries should consider their specific context in deciding whether to continue vaccinating low risk groups, like healthy children and adolescents, while not compromising the routine vaccines that are so crucial for the health and well-being of this age group,” WHO stated.

The international body also suggested that countries prioritize vaccines against more dangerous diseases for healthy young people, but it did not advise against COVID-19 shots, which it described as safe and effective.

“These priority groups are principally based on risk of severe disease and death, and consider vaccine performance, cost-effectiveness, programmatic factors and community acceptance,” WHO stated.

It added, “The high priority group includes older adults; younger adults with significant comorbidities, people with immunocompromising, including children aged 6 months and older; pregnant persons; and frontline health workers.”
