Truth Behind Video Of Malema Advising Raila To Move On From 2022 Election Loss
Written by Odhiambo Shem on April 15, 2023
A video of South African politician and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema asking Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga to move on from the 2022 general elections is old.
This emerged after the opposition embarked on a series of anti-government protests to compel the Kenya Kwanza to agree to their demands.
In the video, Malema advises Raila against the tradition of causing instability. He urged the former Prime Minister to humble himself and support the government in addressing the challenges facing Kenyans, rather than being remembered as an individual who sought power at the expense of the nation’s progress.
“Raila Odinga has been trying and I think it’s time for him to throw in the towel and try a different candidate and perhaps there could be a different outcome,” Malema said in the old video.
The video which has been shared widely on social media was first published in August 2022 after Kenya held a general election.
Malema was reacting to the elections after Raila filed a petition at the Supreme Court of Kenya challenging President William Ruto’s victory.
“This is the fifth time and it cant be done beyond this. He needs to accept and move on,” said Malema.
He added, “It is what it is. With highly contested elections and such a very close outcome, we are likely to have people who are not satisfied. It comes with the nature of the game.”
