A photo showing First Lady Rachel Ruto attending a church service together with controversial Pastor Paul Mackenzie is fake.
The fake photo which was posted by a Twitter user by the name of Rein has got over one hundred and fifty thousand views on the platform.
A spot check by Sky 106 FM found out that the original photo was photoshopped and Pastor Manckenzie’s face added to the body of a congregant who had joined the First Lady for a service at Word of Faith Church in Olalui Kilgoris, Narok County.
Rachel posted the original picture on her social media accounts on January 22, 2023.
The original image also shows the man standing next to Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu did not have a beard and was of darker complexion unlike the altered version.
Pastor Mackenzie has been on the spotlight for the last few days over allegations of running a cult at Shakahola in Kilifi County that resulted in the deaths of over 110 of his followers.
The preacher of Good News International Church is said to have told his followers to starve to death so that they can meet Jesus Christ.
The dead followers were buried in shallow graves in Shakahola in Magarini, Kilifi.
Mackenzie who was arrested in April is still in police custody and is facing charges of murder, counselling and aiding persons to kill themselves, aiding suicide, abduction, radicalization, genocide, crimes against humanity, child cruelty, fraud and money laundering.
