Mzee Odungi Randa Elected As The New Luo Council Of Elders Chairman.

Mzee Odungi Randa has been elected as the new Luo Council of Elders Chairman alias ‘ker’ after serving for more than 10 years as deputy chairperson and a former aide of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. He now replaces Willis Opiyo Otondi who passed away early this year on February 17, 2023, at the age of 98.
The 84-year-old who hails from Kisumu County is the ninth luo council of Elders chairman since the outfit was initiated, he will be deputized by James Ayanga from Siaya County.
He was elected by Luo elders from four Luo counties which include Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, and Homa Bay during the ceremony of Luo socio-cultural extravaganza dubbed as ‘piny Luo’ held at Home Bay High School on 1st July 2023 was attended by the Leader of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party Rt.Hon Raila Amollo Odinga.
Mzee Odungi clinched the seat in a competitive race that brought many contestants including Mzee Odera Osawa from Migori as well as Mzee Ayanga who is his deputy now from Siaya.
In his speech after his endorsement, he pledged to be guided by the council’s rules and regulations.
“I will honor and comply with the rules governing the council, and I will not betray Luos as a community,” said Mzee Odungi.
His election was supported by all the governors from four Luo Counties namely; Homa Bay Governor Gladys Nyasuna Wanga, James Orengo from Siaya, Dr.Ochillo Ayacko from Migori, and Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr.Mathews Owili representing his boss Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
