36-Year-Old Woman Dies After A Mine Collapsed In Siaya

A 36-year-old woman has died after a gold mining shaft collapsed in Siaya County.

Police said the incident happened at Ramba ‘A’ village in North Rama, Rarieda Sub County.

“The incident at the site was reported at Ndori Police Station by an official at the mining company,” police said.

Preliminary investigations established that the mining shaft collapsed at around 10.40 am on Thursday.

Two women, Roseline Adhiambo and Jane Akinyi, were buried under the rubble.

The police established that workers at the site responded swiftly, rescuing the two.

“The two were rushed to Lwak Mission Hospital where Roseline Adhiambo was pronounced dead on arrival,” police added. The scene of the accident was processed accordingly while the body of the deceased was taken to the same facility awaiting postmortem.
