The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has announced that Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga will be replaced by Hamilton Orata as the ODM Homa Bay County chairperson.
In a statement on Sunday, ODM said the party constitution says the vice chairperson takes over the position in an acting capacity until elections are held.
Governor Wanga vacated the position after she was named ODM’s National Chairperson replacing John Mbadi who was appointed to Cabinet.
“On August 9, 2024, the Central Committee made changes in the National Executive Committee, where H.E. Gladys Wanga was named the National Chairperson of the ODM Party. Hitherto, Governor Wanga was the Chairperson of Homa Bay County Coordinating Committee.
“Under Articles 15 and 50 of the ODM Party Constitution, Governor Wanga vacates the position of County Chairperson, and Vice Chairperson H.E. Hamilton Orata takes over in an acting capacity until elections are held,” ODM stated.
Governor Wanga had occupied the influential branch position since 2015 after a bruising battle with Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma.
Meanwhile Ndiwa MP Martin Owino and Homa Bay women rep Joyce Osogo have shown interest in taking over from Wanga.
