Blogger Maverick Aoko Released On A Ksh100K Cash Bail

Renowned Social Media enthusiast Scorphine Atieno Aoko popularly known as Maverick Aoko was on Monday, August 19 released on a cash bail of Ksh 100K.

Aoko who appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Susan Shitubi was charged with three counts of publication of false information and cyber harassment.

She is alleged to have posted false information about Beth Wambui Mbuitu through her X account on August 3, 2024.

“She did this knowing it to be malicious, false, and well-calculated to cause fear, panic and destroy the reputation and professional career and livelihood of one Beth Wambui Mbuitu,” the charge sheet read in part.

Aoko was arrested on Friday, August 16 by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at her home.

She spent the entire weekend in custody at the Muthaiga Police Station. The case will be mentioned on September 2, 2024, for a pre-trial hearing.
