The Nyanza region has produced a number of influential female politicians who have made significant contributions to the political and governance space.

Gladys Wanga

The Homa Bay Governor has been a key figure in the ODM party politics in the county for many years. Wanga was elected as the Homa Bay Governor during the 2022 general elections taking over from Cyprian Otieno. Before being elected Governor, Wanga served as the Homa Bay Women Representative between 2013 and 2022.

Besides being the Homa Bay Governor, Wanga is also the ODM Party national chairperson a position that previously held by Treasury CS John Mbadi.

Millie Odhiambo

Millie is a veteran female politician and has served as a member of Parliament for four terms representing Suba North (formerly Mbita Constituency). Odhiambo is renowned for her strong stance on human rights, gender equality, and support for ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Ruth Odinga

Ruth is the sister to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and been an influential political figure in the Nyanza region.

She previously served as the Kisumu County Deputy Governor before she became the Women Representative,  advocating for women’s participation in politics and governance.

Lilian Gogo

 Gogo is the Member of Parliament for Rangwe constituency having been elected during the 2022 general elections under the ODM party. The Rangwe MP is a rising star in Nyanza politics and is focused on development and community empowerment.

Joyce Osogo

Popularly known as Bensouda, Osogo is the current Homa Bay County Women Representative. The vocal legislator is committed to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
