MIGORI RESIDENTS TO BENEFIT FROM THE OPAPO FISH PROCESSING PLANT

All fishermen and Migori county residents at large will have a reason to smile after the county government of Migori hinted to have the Opapo fish processing plant commence operational anytime now.
This is according to Migori County minister for agriculture Valentine Ogongo who said that through the contracted Rio limited they will ensure that the plant is operational for their own benefits two years after the plant was handed over to the county government of Migori.
While speaking to Sky fm over the matter Ogongo said that they have commenced a dry run of the plant calling on the fishermen and the residents at large to embrace it and embark on fish rearing process in a bid to enhance the fish production as well as improve the food basket of the region.
He said that with the contracted Rio limited that will oversee the operations of the plant it will ensure that high capacity of fish shall be processed in the plant since they have depended on fish processing plant from other regions calling on the fishermen and the residents at large to ensure they form groups and cooperative societies to benefit from the plant saying already they have markets for the fish adding that issuance of the fingerling will also be easy when they are in groups.
Some of the fish farmers and business people from the county led by Atomi Kalawai however showed their delightment with the steps the county government of Migori has taken in putting into use the processing plant which they said will be an opportunity for them especially the youths in terms of getting employment opportunities among other benefits.
