False : The government of Somalia has not given Kenyan Ambassador Lucas Tumbo 24 hours to depart the country

A tweet claiming that Somalian President Mohammed Farmajo has given Kenyan Ambassador Lucas Tumbo 24 hours to leave the country is false.

While the Somalian government has asked Ambassador  Tumbo  to depart the country, he has not been ordered to leave within 24 hours.

The federal state of Somalia has accused  Kenya of continually  interfering with its internal and political affairs.

According to a statement issued by  Mohamed  Ali  Nur, permanent  secretary  of the Ministry  of Foreign Affairs, Somalia has asked Ambassador  Tumbo  to depart the country for  consultations.

The statement, however, did not indicate that Ambassador Tumbo  should depart the within 24 hours.

Somalia says it took  the decision  in a bid  to preserve its national  sovereignty since it appears that Kenya is deliberately interfering in the affairs of Somalia, particularly Jubbaland.

Somalia has accused  Kenya  of pressuring Jubbaland federal  state  to reject an electoral  agreement reached on 17 September  on forthcoming elections set for next  month.

“Somali expresses it’s regret in the government of Kenya’s overt and blatant  interference’s  in the internal and political affairs  of the Federal Republic of Somalia which has the potential  to be a hindrance to the stability  of affairs of Somalia, particularly Jubbaland”, read the statement dated on November 29, 2020.

The federal state cites that as a result of political interference, the Jubbaland leader has reneged on the election agreement that was reached on September 17, 2020.

This is the latest, of the many diplomatic dissensions that have hit the two East African nations .

Somalia  insists that it upholds  the principle of interdependence and maintaining  friendly  relations with its neighbors but Kenyan government actions are not in line with the international recognized diplomatic  relations  enjoyed  in the sovereign states.
