FALSE: BALD MEN ARE AT HIGH RISK OF CONTRACTING COVID-19

Bald men could be at a higher risk of dying from Covid 19 because male hormones help the virus attack cells.

The hormone Androgen, which causes hair loss in men, has been linked to some worst cases of Covid 19 in Spanish hospitals. This is according to Professor Carlos Wambler of Brown University after the first US physician died of Covid-19 in the United States, Dr Frank Gabrin, who was bald.

Data since the beginning of the outbreak in Wuhan, China, in January has shown that men are more likely to die after getting the coronavirus. In the UK, a report from Public Health England found that working-age males were twice as likely as females to die after being diagnosed with Covid-19.

Until recently, scientists have been at a loss at why this might be, pointing to factors such as lifestyle, smoking and immune system differences between the sexes. But increasingly they believe it could be because androgens – male sex hormones like testosterone – may play a part not only in hair loss, but also in boosting ability of coronavirus to attack cells.

But when we contacted a health practitioner Doctor Faith Nyaura, she said that it’s not true but just a myth since the virus attacks through the body openings like mouth, nose, eyes and ears.

Nyaura added that some people have been posting negative comments about Covid 19 to create fear among the public, she therefore encouraged people to follow all that is being said by the Ministry Of Health.
