TRUE: INCREASE IN GENDER BASED VIOLENCE (G.B.V) AND MENTAL HEALTH.
Concerns are now on the rise over health related cases reported in the country since the onset of COVID- 19 pandemic in March 2020. The most talked about are issues related to gender based violence in families across the country where there have been reports on such.
Survey shows that many families are now facing many challenges, more so violence on women and young girls who are now seen as prey in society. It’s clear that hard economic times have led to such where women are now the victims of the vices in society.
On Monday President Uhuru Kenyatta during his state of the nation address said that it’s now a major concern that women and young girls are facing such violence from time to time and there is a need to curb it.
He indicated the urge from the government to end Gender based Violence and protection for girls’ rights as well as early pregnancies. Survey also shows that many cases of mental health issues have also increased in different hospitals.
The president said that many people are facing mental health challenges since the COVID -19 pandemic started which led to loss of jobs in the country. Ministry of Health through Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe also raised the concern on the increase in mental health.
