VITAMIN AND MINERAL SUPPLEMENTS CANNOT CURE COVID-19

There have been several claims that Vitamin and mineral supplements can cure Covid-19 where some with the disease have tried and recovered. This is not true

Zinc, vitamins D, C and other supplements won’t cure COVID-19, though they are important for a well-functioning immune system and overall health. Micronutrients, such as vitamins D and C and zinc, are critical for a well-functioning immune system and play a vital role in promoting health and nutritional well-being.  There is currently no guidance on the use of micronutrient supplements as a treatment of COVID-19.

The World Health Organization warned that taking vitamin and mineral supplements cannot cure COVID-19, they disclosed this via its official Twitter handle @WHO. The UN agency tweeted “FACT: Vitamin and mineral supplements cannot cure #COVID19.

Meanwhile, the world health body noted that “Micronutrients, such as Vitamin D and C and zinc, are critical for a well-functioning immune system and play a vital role in promoting health and nutritional well-being.“There is currently no guidance on the use of micronutrient supplements as a treatment of COVID-19.

WHO in an update of its COVID-19 advice for the public: Myth busters said to date, there is no specific medicine recommended to prevent or treat the new corona virus.

“However, those infected with the virus should receive appropriate care to relieve and treat symptoms, and those with severe illness should receive optimized supportive care. Some specific treatments are under investigation, and will be tested through clinical trials. The UN agency added that antibiotics cannot prevent or treat COVID-19. Antibiotics work only against bacteria, not viruses.

COVID-19 is caused by a virus, and therefore antibiotics should not be used for prevention or treatment. However, if you are hospitalized for COVID-19, you may receive antibiotics because bacterial co-infection is possible,” WHO said.

WHO is coordinating efforts to develop and evaluate medicines to treat COVID-19.
