TRUE: AT LEAST 90 KENYANS DIE OF CANCER DISEASE DAILY SINCE THE START OF COVID 19
With Kenya focused on the Covid 19 pandemic, other diseases could become neglected, a lawmaker has said.
Martha Wangari,the Gilgil constituency MP, was speaking at a national assembly debate on how to protect Kenyans from the new coronavirus. As of 22 June 2020 there had been about 4800 cases and 125 deaths in the country.
But as times goes by,the number continues to rise since as of now it stands at 60,70 with 1971 recoveries as death toll stands at143 in the country.
Due to the government’s effort in combating COVID 19, many Kenyans are now losing lives due to other diseases like cancer at an alarming rate, a concern which is now spreading more fears among Kenyans across the country.
A study done by Africa Check indicated that It’s true at least 90 patients suffering from cancer disease are dying daily in the country and this led to the calls on government to at least see on how they can also put more efforts on curbing the spread of cancer
According to Global Cancer Observatory [Globacon], those getting cancer since COVID19 emerged is rising which makes many to fear for the future of health situation more so on combating cancer
Globacon in collaboration with W.H.O said it’s true that cancer is killing many Kenyans daily as efforts are now just directed to covid 19, as Ann Korir of National Cancer Registry and Kemri said that its true that 90 people are dying daily in the country,as she said that it’s true according to what the Mps said about cancer and the number may be higher than even the said 90.
