True: The Chichwa market project in Kisumu town was funded by the World Bank

A Facebook post claiming that the Chichwa market project in Kisumu was financed by the World Bank is true.
“This Chichwa Market during and after a 20 minute downpour.This Project was funded by World Bank,it’s construction hurriedly done and supervised by the county gov’t and then launched by the Gov himself in the name of Tch Tire Yurop,” reads the Facebook post.
The post is accompanied by a video which showcases a flood crisis that traders in the market experience after it rains.
The Chichwa market project was financed by the World Bank through the state Department of Urban Development under the Kenya Urban support programme.
The market is a component of the Ksh.241 million non motorized project which aims to ensure pedestrians and cyclists have improved convenience, comfort and safety.
The facility hosts traders who previously conducted small scale business along the streets of Jommo Kenyatta’s Sports ground, Ang’awa, Lower and Upper Ojino Okew.
The project worth Ksh. 37 million was commissioned by Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyongo has stalls to accommodate 518 traders, with an open air section for 240 traders.
It also has essential facilities such as water, electricity, security services and modern ablution blocks.
