Fishermen Call for Government’s Assistance as the Search for their Fellow’s Body Enters Day 2

Fishermen from Kadem in Nyatike sub-county have requested the National and County government to help them search for the body of a fisherman who drowned in Lwanda beach after a hippo attacked the boat that they were using.
Led by Lwanda Konyango Beach Management Unit (BMU) chairperson Leonard Onyango, the fishermen urged the government to help them find the body which has now enterd the second day since he drowned into Lake Victoria.
They also have urged the government through the wildlife service to ensure that they are safe from hippos that have now been putting their lives to danger.
Speaking about the safety of fishermen in the lake, Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala said that they are doing everything possible to ensure that the fishermen’s lives and their properties are protected. He also said that they are in discussions with countries surrounding Lake Victoria to ensure that fishermen perform their duties without inteference and stop the rampant arrests of fishermen in the lake.
