Fake: Aden Duale Did Not Admit Raila Odinga Won the 2022 Presidential Election

Written by on May 7, 2023

A video doing rounds on social media purporting to show that Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale admitting that Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga won the 2022 presidential elections has been altered.

The 20 seconds video, which was first posted on Tiktok shows Duale saying that he is a Muslim and he doesn’t lie.

“It’s Ramadhan and I’m a Muslim I don’t want to lie. Raila Odinga won that election of 2022. By CS Duale,” the fake video claims.

A spot check by Sky 106 FM established that the video was edited to fit the fake narrative. The original video was uploaded on YouTube in September 2021 by the Kenyan Historian and contains interviews of senior politicians in Kenya talking about major political events in the country over the years.

In the video, Duale was talking about the 2007 general election where he claimed that Raila won that year’s presidential election but was not announced as the winner.

The edited fake video on the other hand has omitted the part where Duale says about the 2007 elections replacing it with another video where Duale was talking about the 2022 general elections. The altered video also added parts such as Duale mentioning IEBC and about a 200,00 margin which is similar to the margin that President William Ruto defeated Rail in the 2022 August 9 general election.

President Ruto garnered 7,176, 141 votes while Raila got 6,942,930.
