The Kirinyaga government has opened a dispensary in Karumandi ward expected to serve 4,000 residents.
Until now, the ward only had Karumandi health centre.
The opening of Mucagara dispensary will save residents time and cost incurred to travel in search of healthcare services.
The dispensary will serve residents of 10 villages within Kirerema and Kariru sub-locations.
It will offer outpatient, maternal and child welfare, laboratory and pharmacy services.
Governor Anne Waiguru said Friday the dispensary will provide the much-needed access to affordable primary healthcare, a critical component of Universal Health Coverage.
“This dispensary is a valuable resource for the area residents and I look forward to seeing the positive impact that it will have on their lives,” she said. Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru at Mucagara dispensary Friday

The dispensary is the 12th medical facility to be opened by the governor in the last two years and is among 20 dispensaries constructed by Waiguru’s administration.
The government has already deployed 1,205 Community Heath Promoters across the county and equipped them to offer basic services and referrals.
“Some of the services that you should expect from the CHPs include: public health education, basic tests such blood pressure, blood sugar, weight, body temperature, child growth monitoring, deworming and First Aid,” the governor said.
The CHPs also make follow-ups on expectant mothers to ensure they attend antenatal clinics, deliver in a health facility and attend child welfare clinics after delivery.
“We are asking for your support as we promote preventive health since that will help us reduce the disease burden in our county,” Waiguru said.
To enhance seamless delivery of outpatient and in-patient services, the governor said the government has installed a Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) in Kerugoya County Referral Hospital and will be rolling out the system in all the health facilities.
Area MCA Caroline Muriithi said the facility offers a big relief as it will save them the agony of walking long distances seeking medical services
