Former Migori Women Rep aspirant Bevin Bhoke and former MCA aspirant Betty Oranga have announced a plan to empower women in Migori County ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking in Migori, the two politicians revealed they plan to revive at least 150 women groups across Migori’s 8 constituencies.

Eight SACCOs were formed in each constituency in Migori, providing an umbrella for groups to have revolving loan funds and platforms for savings and credit services for members.

“These groups should be professionally managed and the members should work together to get funding, grants, and seed money for their businesses,” Bhoke remarked.

She noted that the plan to move ahead with the groups that were initiated by former ICT  Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo.

“Under Owalo, we had this bottom-up approach of creating a development agenda to reach Mama mboga and village women, that was our manifesto in UDA that will not die under our watch,” Bhoke added.

Oranga on the other hand said they have been benchmarking and learning from other successful groups in Kenya.
