Maverick Aoko Arrested By DCI Over Controversial Posts

Popular Social media commentator Scorphine  Otieno alias Maverick Aoko was Friday, August 17 arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The controversial social media enthusiast was picked up from her house and taken to custody for grilling over her posts.

“Yesterday, the DCI stormed Aoko’s home with more than three Subaru vehicles in a blatant show of force. They ransacked her house, and seized her electronics(phones, laptop) without justification. She is still detained without a valid reason. Absolute abuse of power,” Aoko’s aide posted.

She was arrested after several complaints lodged with the police over her posts, her lawyer said without elaborating.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino said that Aoko was detained at Muthaiga police cells ahead of her arraignment on Monday.

In another post, Aoko’s aide said she was visited by her counsel and is unwell after the police prevented her from carrying her medication.

“Aoko’s counsel visited her, Aoko is unwell and in a lot of pain. She was prevented from carrying her medication during her arrest. We are currently setting up a paybill in preparation for her bail hearing on Monday,” her aide stated.
