170 Students Loose Their Properties Due to Fire Breakout at Nyandema Secondary School

Properties whose value have not yet been determined burnt into ashes at Nyandema Secondary School in Nyatike sub-county on Saturday night.

Confirming the incident, Migori county police commander Mark Wanjala said that the accident occured at night when the students were attending their night preps. The fire burnt down a dormitory that hosts 170 students and nothing was rescued.

Wanjala said that nobody got injured during the incident and all students are safe. he said that the police are investigating what may have caused the fire.

This fire incident came just one month after a similar fire burnt down a dormitory at St. Peters Abwao mixed secondary school in Suna West sub-county and another one at Osingo secondary school in Suna East sub-county.

The permanent secretary in the ministry of Education Dr. Julius Jwang’ who visited Migori county one week ago said that the government will not release any money to build a school that has been burnt down in the country.
