Truth Behind Video Of Martha Karua Acknowledging William Ruto As President

A video circulating online purporting that Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has recognized William Ruto as the rightful President of Kenya is fake.
The video, which was posted by Vibe Wave Media claimed that the Azimio la Umoja co-principal recognized Ruto’s presidency after the Head of State invited her to speak at an event.
A spot check by Sky 106.1 FM established that the video was manipulated. The original footage was shot in May 2022 during the 19th national prayer breakfast at Safari Park Hotel.
In the event, President William Ruto who was then serving as the Deputy President broke protocol and invited Karua to speak to those in attendance on behalf of Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga who was not present.
The former Justice and Legal Affairs Minister has for long maintained that Azimio won the August 2022 general election but was denied victory.
In a previous interview with Spice FM, Karua revealed that he refers to the Head of State as former Deputy President.
“The law recognizes him (President Ruto) but I don’t. I have a choice he is the president courtesy of the law, I do not have to overpraise that position. I accepted the Supreme Court ruling but I totally disagree with it,” said Karua.
