Sagana III meeting held on 23rd, February, 2022 at the Sagana State Lodge seems to have unburdened speculations and ripped bare some of the pertinent questions that Kenyans and political leaders across all divides have been asking, largely borrowing from the lengthy speech by the head of state as he embarked to set straight his political stance in the succession puzzle. The head of state in his address deeply delved into various matters as he sought to validate reasons as to why he has chosen to throw his political weight behind ODM leader, Raila Odinga in sharp contrast to the anticipation that he would back his political partner, William Ruto.
Done and dusted, one thing that however left many with judgements to make was the many praises the head of state heaped on the former Meru governor and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, who equally doubles as a close ally to the president, with many now wondering whether it was a kinesia of endorsing Munya to deputize Odinga in the presidential contest slated for 9th, August this year. Uhuru termed Munya as a transformative leader who has exhibited commendable versatility in various leadership cadres he has served in, in the country, reflecting on the pragmatic reforms that the CS has brought to the Agriculture docket since he took over from Mwangi Kiunjuri who was given the chop on grounds of dismal performance in the Agricultural ministry. According to the head of state, the rich experience wielded by Munya has helped revamp the ministry and align it with the commitments of the Jubilee’s Big Four Agenda hell-bent to provide an antidote to the food security crises in the country.
“All those years, because they are saying they are coming to fix that, who has been leading the Ministry of Agriculture? Is it them or me?
“One year and a half under Munya’s leadership, coffee has money returns, tea farmers have fertilizer, dairy farmers have a minimum guarantee,” Kenyatta stated.
Yesterday 25th,February 2021, during the Party of National Unity (PNU) National Delegates Conference it was vividly seen that leaders affiliated with the party read through the president’s lips and could not wait for grass to grow under their feet before they could equally endorse Peter Munya who serves at the helm of the party as the party leader. According to the delegates, the Agriculture CS is the best suited to deputize Raila Odinga in the quest to clinch the most coveted topmost seat in the land.
